At a glance

Blotter: Message Filter is an iPhone app developed by droessmj. It filters eligible texts from unknown senders using keywords you choose. It requires no account and uses no advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs.

On-device message processing

When you enable Blotter in iPhone Settings, iOS supplies eligible incoming SMS/MMS messages to its filter extension. The filter compares the message text with your saved keywords and matching options on your iPhone, then returns a classification to iOS.

Message text is not sent to the developer or a developer-operated server. The filter does not use the sender field. Blotter does not save message bodies, senders, message timestamps, filter decisions, or a history of keyword matches.

Information stored on your iPhone

Blotter stores your configured keywords, matching options, and setup status in shared app preferences so the app and its filter can use your rules. These preferences may be included in device backups according to your Apple settings.

The developer does not receive your rules or message data from the app. They are not sold or shared with advertising or analytics services.

Retention, deletion, and disabling the filter

Keyword rules stay in app storage until you remove them. You can stop future filtering by deselecting Blotter in the text message filtering settings under iPhone Settings → Apps → Messages.

Using Delete App removes local app storage; offloading preserves app data. Device backups are managed separately through Apple’s controls. Blotter does not control messages retained in Apple’s Messages app.

Activity logging has been removed. When the updated app is opened, it deletes older stored activity and keyword history without reading their contents, while keeping your rules and matching options. The updated filter also attempts to delete its old private log when it runs. Cleanup failures are retried; the app reports failures it encounters. Generic cleanup diagnostics contain no sender, keyword, or message body. Previously exported copies and old backups must be managed separately.

When you contact support

Issues and feature requests are handled in the app repository on GitHub. GitHub processes your account information and anything you submit under its own privacy policy. In a public repository, issues and comments are public: your username, message, and attachments can be read by others. Do not post private habit records, real texts, verification codes, or phone numbers.

If you email instead, the developer receives your email address and the information you choose to include. This is used to answer your request, troubleshoot issues, and handle follow-up correspondence. Email is processed by the email providers involved in delivery and storage.

Support correspondence is retained as needed to resolve your request and maintain relevant correspondence, or as required by law. You can use the contact below to ask about or request deletion of information you sent to support. Please do not send private habit records, real message contents, verification codes, or phone numbers unless necessary and discussed first.
