Day in Ink / Help & support
Day in Ink.
Help & how-tos.
Habit tracking, daily defaults, and keeping a copy of your progress.
Make a habit your own.
Use the + button to create a habit. Choose Build progress for a numeric goal, such as minutes or glasses of water, or Pass / fail for a daily yes-or-no check-in.
Add progress from Today or open a habit to enter an exact total, correct a previous day, or see its trends. Archiving a habit keeps its history while removing it from your active list.
Choose how each day begins.
For a pass/fail habit, set Daily default to Passed or Failed when creating or editing it. Days without a recorded check-in use that default.
Changing the default also changes unrecorded past days. Explicit passes and failures stay as logged. Clearing a check-in restores the current default for that day. Numeric habits stay unrecorded until you log progress.
Change your approach.
In Edit habit, switch between Build progress and Pass / fail. Unrecorded days use the new tracking type. Recorded days keep their original tracking type, goal, and unit, so you can still review and edit that history.
Clearing a recorded day makes it use the habit’s current tracking type and settings.
Keep a copy of your progress.
- Open Habits → About (ⓘ) → Export and import.
- Choose Export backup and save the JSON file with Files.
- To restore, choose Import backup, select a Day in Ink backup, review the summary, and confirm.
Export your current data first if you want to keep it. Imports do not merge two histories. Backups exported by the earlier Daymark app also work.
Exported files contain your habit names, settings, and recorded history. Day in Ink does not encrypt them. Keep copies somewhere you trust and manage them separately from the app.
When something doesn’t look right.
Why did past results change?
Changing a pass/fail default affects days without explicit check-ins, including past days. A recorded pass or failure stays unchanged. Check the habit’s Daily default and whether you recorded or cleared the day.
What if my saved habits won’t open?
Keep Day in Ink installed. The unreadable file is preserved for possible recovery. If you have a backup, use Import a backup on the recovery screen. Contact support with the error text and the steps that led to it. Deleting the app can remove the local data you want to recover.
Does archiving delete my history?
No. Archiving keeps the habit and its check-ins. Permanently deleting a habit removes it and its check-ins from current app storage. Backups you have already exported are separate copies.
